Or for Ubuntu, try AWN or Gnome-dock biggrin.gif.

Also, I have 6 gigs of ram on that PC, it just only supports 3.5 or so (Windows XP 32-bit that is).

Because I'm upgrading to 64-bit once Windows 7 comes out.

Have you even tried it? It's incredible. Vista threw the ball into the ground so hard that the earth shook, but Windows 7 is nothing like Vista. Do some research before you make claims about Windows 7 with your prejudices, bro! It's actually pretty great on memory usage, has increased organization... upgrades to formerly craptacular programs, too. I can see where you'd get the idea it will suck from, but I honestly really liked the beta. Go torrent it, now. LOL!

LOL, aesthetics are a huge show of performance. If the look of an OS is streamlined and organized, there's obviously going to be a boost in productivity. As to memory usage and speed, Windows 7 is better on that than Ubuntu is in my opinion. Ubuntu is the worst distro of Linux ever made, it's more like Vista with a new GUI.

Ubuntu has shown itself in my eyes to be bloated, but that explains a lot of the good compatibilities with certain things.

I can guarantee unless you compile it yourself, the kernel will have every function built in, or as modules.

And being a bit bloated doesn't effect performance much, just hard drive space... if you remove the easy-to-uninstall crap from the Install/Uninstall menu after a fresh format, the bloat is a pretty minimal cost for the compatibility fixes for upgrades you might end up getting later.

I guess I was angry that day, I've run Ubuntu before... it's not horrid, just--as you stated so eloquently--a bit bloated.

Indeed wink.gif After all, with some toning down, Ubuntu will use no more ram then an average KDE or Gnome / GTK System upon boot up smile.gif

But I must say, booting with using a little under 80mb of ram sure is sexy....(gentoo)
